Due to a scheduling malfunction that occurred many months ago — the fellow scheduling the trip cannot be fully trusted to plan an entire two weeks without serious error — we had to leave our Nanaimo campsite a day earlier than intended. This left a one-day hole with nowhere to stay. Oops.
I discovered this about a week before our trip began, so did some scrambling. Found space at an RV park just 15 minutes or so from our ferry to Port Angeles, WA, and toward home. We were quite lucky to get a space that didn’t force us to unhitch, so we could get out and into the ferry line quickly the next morning.
Last-minute reservations do not often yield premium sites. Apparently.
Not a single complaint do we have, though, about our stay at the WestBay Marine Village RV Park in Victoria. The place is well kept and, well, it is what it is. There are a couple of pocket-size, waterfront common areas for all to enjoy, and we had fun chatting with other park guests and taking distant views of the Inner Harbour and up-close views of arriving and departing seaplanes…
…and diminutive ferries that would come right to our little marine village when asked.
Even in the big city, there were wildlife sightings.
And a couple of cruise ships.
And an opportunity to envy those who had reserved a year in advance.
You can’t see it in this pic, but there’s An Escape 19 trailer tucked into this row, inhabited by a wonderful couple from the Langley, BC area. They followed us around, I swear it. We saw them in the ferry lineup in Tsawassen… at both of our stays in Nanaimo… and then here. It could be that we followed them around. I got their names, repeated three times, and wrote them down on a slip of paper. Of course I lost the slip of paper. But I hope we see them again.
We didn’t have time to go enjoy Victoria at all. But we’ll be back. I thought the WestBay Marine Village was a fascinating way to visit, and I hope we can go back and stay for a few days.
The next morning turned out to be the beginning of the end (of this trip). But first these messages.
